Português Feast of Saint Constance
Nel 1756 furono portati a San Donato Val di Comino i resti di Santa Costanza, martire delle prime persecuzioni cristiane. La festa è suggestiva, ricca di atmosfera e gusto per la ricerca storica.
La Martire compatrona è festeggiata soprattutto dai giovani e dalle zitelle (dette “cipolle”) con rievocazioni in costume, giochi popolari, la veglia notturna, fuochi d’artificio, concerti musicali e una solenne processione dove è portata in trionfo da dodici paggi in abito settecentesco.
Il suo vero nome non si conosce, ma i Sandonatesi la chiamarono Costanza ispirandosi alle poche parole che si leggevano ancora sul luogo della primitiva sepoltura corroso dal tempo: “Costante in fide…”.
