In 1756 the remains of St. Constance, a martyr of the early Christian persecutions, were brought to San Donato Val di Comino. The festival is evocative, rich in atmosphere and taste for historical research.
The Co-Patron Martyr is celebrated mainly by young people and spinsters (called "onions") with costume re-enactments, folk games, the night vigil, fireworks, musical concerts and a solemn procession where she is carried in triumph by twelve pages in 18th-century dress.
Her real name is not known, but the Sandonatesi called her Constance, inspired by the few words that were still read on the primitive burial site eroded by time: "Constant in fide...."
