House of Joseph Coletti

Historical landmark
On August 4, 1940, sisters Rosa and Sidonie Blody arrived in San Donato Val di Comino. They were housed in this house, owned by Giuseppe Coletti (Peppino M'rinda) and his mother Almerinda di Vito.

Joseph had emigrated to Brazil in the 1920s. He returned to San Donato with his wife Luisa and children Olga and Osvaldo to escape the economic crisis and Getúlio Vargas' revolution. In 1931 he built the "Regina Elena" movie theater on the street of the same name. He named it Cinema Regina Elena in homage to the queen he loved so much. The Newspaper of Italy called it a "great hall."

Who were Rosa and Sidonie

Both were part of the first group of Jewish internees transferred in the summer of 1940 from Tuscany to San Donato. Rosa and Sidonie (Sidonia for the people of San Donato) were the daughters of Jabob and Helena Franckenbusch and were born in Vienna on December 27, 1894 and March 14, 1900.

In Italy they are attested as early as 1935, carrying out activities as sellers of linens and raincoats for Sirea, a company with offices in Rome and Milan. In 1942 Sidonia married Sender Ehrenwort and moved to Piandimileto, Marche. Rosa, on the other hand, preferred to remain in San Donato. In order not to be alone, in December, she requested the transfer of her grandson Samuel Brull ia San Donato.

The fate of the two women

On April 6, 1944 Rosa was arrested in San Donato along with the other Jewish internees and transferred to the Fossoli concentration camp. On May 16 she was loaded with the Sandonese internees into the lead cars of "Convoy 10″ bound for Auschwitz.

Upon arriving at the death camp, she was assigned the serial number A-5387. She passed the initial selection and, despite her hardships, survived and was present at the liberation of the camp on January 27, 1945. Of Sidonie and her husband, however, we find no trace in the lists of deportees.

This suggests that they managed to survive. In the 1960s Rosa Blody, interviewed by Enzo Tortora, would tell important details about Grete Bloch's death in Auschwitz.
