"De Sancto Donato" is a historical document dated 778 AD, considered the earliest manuscript in which the territory of San Donato Val di Comino is mentioned. This valuable document is the oldest written record of the entire Comino Valley.
The manuscript is housed in the Vatican library and represents a transcript of an authentic precept from an administrative register of the Monastery of San Vincenzo al Volturno. Written in the name of the Lord God and Jesus Christ the Savior, during the reign of Charles, king of the Franks and Lombards, the document dates from the fifth year of his reign in Italy.
